2 Sonatas (Rodemann ed ), Ms 229 -2 sc. Contributors: Finger. Recorder Duets (AA). Publisher's category: Recorder Duets.

Gottfried Finger was born in Olmutz in Moravia and probably received his musical education in thc orchestra of the prince-bishop there. In 1682 we find him in Munich, later on in London and for a short time at the court of the music-loving King James II. Officially he probably did not always receive the acknowledgement in England which he deserved. He thought the reason for this was the then prevalent dislike for foreigners and it was this that led him to return to Germany circa 1701. He held leading positions in court bands in Berlin, Breslau, Innsbruck and Mannheim.
In his own time Finger was one of the best known and above all -- among all English amateur musicians -- one of the most popular composers.
