These three trios have come down only in a treatise published in Frankfurt in 1615, Salomon de Caus Institution Harmonique.
The first two of these pieces are quite conservative in style, not far removed from, say, the Fantasias of an Italian composer such as Giovanni Bassano. The third piece is rather more madrigalesque in character, using the distinctive texture of two high parts plus a substantially lower one that is typical of lighter Italian forms of the time such as the canzonette or villanelle.
