These five anonymous villancicos from the famous Cancionero de Palacio (Madrid, Royal Palace) are in a variety of styles. Strictly speaking, no. 4, Deh! fosse is not a villancico at all, but a frottola (it appears as such in PetruccisFrottole Libro Sesto) -- however, the two forms are quite similar, and the PalaceZagaleja del casar is rhythmically similar to a common frottola type, as well as having a text that breaks into Italian. A los banos del amor makes very effective use of a simple device: a four-note figure in the tenor part, which relates to the second line of text (Sola me ire = So La Mi Re = G A E D).
