Juan del Encina (1468-1530) was probably the most gifted Spanish compolser of his generation. As well as a musician he was a poet and dramatist. The first two songs here are actually romances - normally serious songs in a straightforward strophic form - rather than villancicos. They can be sung acappella or played on instruments.
