Leopold Godowsky was born on February 13th, 1870, in Sozly, near Vilna, in what was then Russian territory but is now part of Lithuania. His career as a concert pianist took him to every continent of the world with the exception of Australia. In 1890 he moved to The United States of America and became an American citizen. Leobold Godowsky died in New York City, on November 21st, 1938.
