6 Dances from the Dublin Virginal Manuscript - 4 scores. Contributors: Thomas (ed). Recorder Quartets (SATB). Publisher's category: Recorder Quartets.
The Dublin Virginal Manuscript is a unique collection, probably written down around 1570, which reflects a very different repertoire from that found in the other English virginal books. There are many different settings of dance tunes that had considerable currency all over Europe around the middle of the century.
The majority of the shorter pieces in the DVM are written in a style which is not especially idiomatic to the keyboard, with many pieces that are quite clearly intabulations of polyphonic settings. So it is relatively easy to provide four-partINCLUDES:
Pavan and Galliard, DMV nos. 5 and 6
Almande "Prince", DVM, no. 15
Almande "Le Pied de Cheval", DVM, no. 18
The Earl of Essex Measure, DVM, no. 11
Pavan, DVM, no. 21
