AMERICAN PATROL was originally composed for piano by Tin Pan Alley composer Frank White Meacham in 1885. An arrangement for wind band was published in 1891. Glen Miller released a 78 single of the march for Victor Records in 1942. The recording reached 15th place on Billboard that year. Typical of the patrol format, the march depicts a military band approaching, walking past, then receeding into the distance. This 1943 arrangement for orchestra was completed by Henry Sopkin. Instrumentation: 1+Picc.1.2.1: 3Sax(AAT): 2.3.2.1: Timp:Perc(2-3): Str (3Vn(6.6.5).7.6.5).
