The viola section of the Boston Symphony Orchestra commissioned Amlin in 2004 for a tribute to violist Burton Fine, who retired that December after 41 years with the orchestra. The result was Encomium, which Amlin built upon a thematic from the name "Burton Fine." The world premiere was given in October 2005 by Fine and his wife fellow chamber musician, Susan Miron, on harp. Duration: 5'
