Robert Baksa
Violin Sonata
Robert Baksa's Violin Sonata received its premiere at a concert in 2008 celebrating the composer's 70th birthday. The music is characterized by an effusive melodic dialogue between the solo and the keyboard accompaniment. The outer movements take the shape of Sonata-Allegro forms with some unexpected twists. In contrast, the somewhat austere second movement, fragmented and tragic in tone, breaks the forward movement of the piece. Resuming the optimistic tone, the finale moves energetically forward combining melodic charm with brilliant scale passages. For advanced performers.
