Sullivan's first thoughts of The Mikado came when a Japanese sword that had been hanging on his wall for years suddenly fell. The convoluted plot of the opera is filled with the usual potpourri of mayhem and mishap and has proven to be a favorite of crowds everywhere. This is the first time that this fun piece has been available to a full orchestra at this level.
