Blues Essay is a display piece for solo trombone or horn and band. The rich melodic line is to be played in strict notation, but with a blues feeling. Good tone, control, and facility in the upper register are required of the soloist. The band parts complement the solo effectively and are not difficult. The strong, tender character of the theme are expressed by the title of this work. Grade 3, Duration ca. 3'.
