Johanne Fischer published sometime after 1711 a number of keyboard suites using as titles the names of the muses of Greek mythology. This suite named for Calliope, the muse of heroic poetry, is anything but heroic in nature.
The music is light and charming, almost rococco, which lends itself well to transcription for recorders. In spite of the title , which would suggest something more ponderous, these movements are gay and witty, and above all, fun to play.
