These settings of the German Easter hymn Christ ist erstanden represent only a small proportion of the many surviving arrangements of a song, which although it certainly became part of the core repertoire of the Lutheran Church, actually predates Luther by more than a hundred years. There are also other settings of the same melody in this series: EML 273 contains two magnificent 5-part settings by Heinrich Finck and there are two three-part versions from the Apel Codex in EML 240. Other available settings are by Lassus (a 4, in LPM TM36) and Isaac (a 4, in LPM AN11)
