These books are a truly major contribution to brass literature in general and the trumpet in particular. In this Magnum Opus, Thibaud instructs in the value of pedals and double pedals and how to learn to play them. Then he systematically carries these settings back into the normal range and demonstrates the benefits. This is a distillation and extension of Maggio, Spaulding, Stamp, et a l, in a typically Thibaud fashion. These books present a thorough, integrated and progressive way to take the advanced trumpeter to new levels. This book consists of two sections. The first is a set of 48 chromatic exercises in extensive and detailed variations about evenly divided between duple and triple figures. A multitude (!) of suggested articulation schemes and slurring patterns a re presented which are to be successively applied to each exercise. The second section of the book contains fifteen etudes, many of which are arrangements of less-familiar material from J.S. Ba ch. They are quite challenging but their aural reward is such that you are pulled along in a desire to master the etude. They bring everything together that he has been talking about in the previ ous books.
