Each sung monologue in LOVE AND LONGING is drawn from a climactic moment in a work of classic literature. "Darcy Proposes" humorously elaborates on a scene from Pride & Prejudice, in which Mr. Darcy enumerates the reasons it would be foolish of him to marry a Bennet, even as he asks for Elizabeth's hand. LOVE AND LONGING was conceived as a single work in three parts, to be performed in succession by three different singers. The complete collection is available as 411-41198, and the three monologues are available as standalone pieces in two voicings each, 111-40339 through 111-40344. These arias are well within reach for college students and young professionals, and draw on multiple musical traditions.
