The Bat - Comic Opera in 3 Acts (Piano/Vocal Score, with dialogue; German).
Johann Strauss Jr. ("The Waltz King"), son of Johann Strauss Sr., and brother of Josef and Eduard Strauss, was the most famous of the Strauss family. He was born on October 25th, 1825, in Vienna, and elevated the waltz from a lowly peasant dance to entertainment fit for the Habsburg court. Die Fledermaus premiered on April 5th, 1874, and has been a part of the regular operetta repertoire ever since. Johann Strauss Jr. died in Vienna on n June 3, 1899, and is buried in the Zentralfriedhof.
