Georg Christian Schemelli (around 1680-1762) attended the Leipzig Thomas School and later became a cantor in Zeitz. Schemelli owes his fame today to the fact that in 1763 he was able to win Johann Sebastian Bach to collaborate on his "Musikalisches Gesang-Buch". Bach invented the basso continuo to 69 melodies and contributed a few melodies himself. Which and how many can not be said with certainty, because not all composers are named.

The charm of these songs is the arios tone, which distinguishes them from the church songs and chorales of their time and gives singers today the opportunity to a more "private" individual design.
