Knudage Riisager was born in Port Kunda, Estonia, in 1897, but returned to Denmark with his family at the age of three. After studying music (and political science!) in Copenhagen, Riisager went to Paris, where he studied composition from 1921-23 with Albert Roussel and Paul le Flem. During his sojourn in Paris he also came into contact with the group Les Six, and became acquainted with the music of Stravinsky. In 1932, he studied in Leipzig with Herman Grabner. Knudage Riisager died in 1974.
