Five Galliards (1615) -set of scores. Contributors: Trabaci. Recorder Quintets (SSATB). Publisher's category: Recorder Quintets.
Giovanni Maria Trabaci (c. 1575 1647) was an Italian composer and organist in the Early Baroque era. He served as organist of the Oratorio dei Filippini in Naples, organist of the royal chapel there and then as its maestro di cappella.
Trabaci was most noted for his keyboard works, which include ricercares, canzonas and toccatas. He also wrote numerous sacred and secular vocal works.
These galliards are strikingly original, harmonically rich pieces. Trabaci is very free in his notion of a galliard, like Brade with the pavane. Written in a recognizably Neapolitan style - somewhat similar to the dances published in EML0242.
