The Frenchman Michel de Montéclair with his open and unprejudiced mind solved the baroque dispute on the question of Italian versus French style by using them both in his compositions depending on the character of the piece or movement. A rather pleasing example for this technique is his 4th Concerto for the flute traversi?re which we are now presenting in a transcription for alto recorder and B.c. as part of our series "Baroque music for recorder". This edition is based on the first print published in Paris in 1724. Additions made by the editor have been carefully marked.
