Overture and Sinfonia from Solomon, -ScP. Contributors: Handel. Recorder Quartets (SATB). Score and Parts. Publisher's category: Recorder Quartets.

Handel composed the music for the oratorio Soloman in 1748 when the English were prosperous, confident, and patrioitic. Handels audience would certainly have transferred his glorification of the biblical King Solomans wisdom and diplomatic skill to their own King George II. The overture is in the familiar French style, a stately dotted rhythm introduction leads into a robust fugue. The liverly Sinfonia is the instrumental prelude to Act 3, which portrays a visit to Solomans court by the Queen of Sheba. The movement has become known as The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, and is one of Handels most popular compositions. Score and parts.
