Kind Of Blue(grass). By: Sturm. Jazz Summit. Instrumentation: standard jazz ensemble plus opt. vibes. Style: Straight 8th Feel.

This clever, straight-8th feel piece for proficient groups was commissioned by the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association for the 2006 Arizona All-State Jazz Ensemble. Inspired by the classic 1959 Miles Davis album Kind Of Blue, other source material comes from a traditional Appalachian tune titled Cluck Old Hen. Upbeat and lighthearted, the chart borrows a 32-measure progression used in Miles Davis' composition So What. Brass ranges are moderate, and the bass part contains chord changes and suggested lines. This is an ideal opportunity for your group to enjoy the music of one of today's greatest jazz composers. Duration 3:50.
