Late Pleasures - Serenade for soprano recorder and violin (2001) by Ronald Autenrieth. Late Pleasures has three movements entitled leicht bewegt or easily moving, eher ruhig, or camly and vivace. In the first movement begin an expressive contrary motion which eventually switches to similar motion and empasizes parallel seconds. This creates a very strong musical climax. The second movement consists of mostly half note double stops in the violin against a wandering melody in the recorder part. The middle section may take practice as it has leaps of sevenths and octaves. The third movement is great fun as there are syncopated rythms which create entertaining rythmic interplay, parallel seconds and thirds as well as harmonics on the violin at points. This piece is intended for the more advanced music students although it is not technically difficult for either the recorder or violin. This piece congures up images of relaxation at the end of the day and the music paints the picture nicely.
