Gioachino Rossini's (1792-1868) last comic opera LE COMTE ORY, set in rural France at the time of the Crusades, tells the story of Count Ory, who attempts to seduce a Countess Ad¨le as she awaits the return of her brother. "Ah! quell respect, Madame" from Act. II occurs when the countess welcomes a group of pilgrim women (actually Count Ory and his men in disguise) in from a storm. Count Ory, left alone with the countess, barely contains his feelings in the duet between them "Ah! quell respect, Madame." LE COMTE ORY premiered on August 20, 1828 at the Salle Le Peleteir in Paris. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.0.0.: Str(4.4.3.3.3 in Set).
