In 1982, at the height of his popularity, Piazzolla composed Le Grand Tango for master cellist Mtislav Rostropovich, who gave the premiere in New Orleans, 1990. Le Grand Tango has found its way into a dozen transcriptions from B_rben, and continues to be a favorite in concert programming.
