Le Tombeau de Couperin (1914-17), a suite originally for piano, casts a longing look at the past while at the same time being full to the brim with traces of modern music. Each of the six movements is dedicated to friends who died in battle in World War I. In 1919 Ravel orchestrated four of these movements, textures considered and consulted in this new transcription written for the Stella Piano Trio.
