Love Me Sweet was composed for the occasion of the composer's wedding in July 2010. The text consists of four verses taken from Elizabeth Barrett Browning's ironic poem A Man's Requirements which ends with the couplet, 'I will love thee - half a year - As a man is able.' This setting responds to the purer sentiments of the earlier verses, employing a lilting meter, a harmonic idiom and a piquant sprinkling of dissonance.
