Originally written for Bishop Ruedigier on the occasion of the consecration of the votive chapel of the Linz Cathedral, the second version of 1882 includes improved melodic writing and instrumentation. Bornhoeft had access to the autograph manuscripts and handwritten scores that survive in Linz and Vienna.
