More than 20 years ago, Mike Schoenmehl wrote his Little Stories in Jazz (HL49007032), a classic for piano lessons. An enormous number of pupils have played the pieces with pleasure and for their own benefit since, thus being given a good start into the world of jazz. There are more little jazz stories now, narrated for lessons and for practicing at home. Text in English and German.
“The pieces, not presented in order of difficulty, provide excellent material for intermediate to advanced students seeking to improve their understanding of jazz performance style...The rhythms and harmonies of the pieces reflect complete understanding of jazz style, and the pianistic accessibility is indicative of seasoned teaching on the part of the composer...Overall, this collection should provide a musically satisfying and pedagogically valuable addition to intermediate-level jazz study.”--American Music Teacher
