Each sung monologue in LOVE AND LONGING is drawn from a climactic moment in a work of classic literature. In "Mr. Rochester," a desperate and defiant Jane Eyre takes her employer (with whom she has fallen in love) to task for toying with her affections and then becoming engaged to another woman. LOVE AND LONGING was conceived as a single work in three parts, to be performed in succession by three different singers. These arias are well within reach for college students and young professionals, and draw on multiple musical traditions.
