Ada Richter, a young educator of disadvantaged children, would become a prolific arranger of a huge variety of music. Her first songbook was published by Theodore Presser Company, later joined by an entire series. In My Own Hymnbook, she answers the expectation of piano students' parents that children should play hymns in the first year of study. To that end, Richter has arranged a large number of popular hymns, saying, "The hymns in this book…are so simplified that the pupil who has studied a year can play them with ease." The hymns are broken into sections: Hymns for Everyday Use and Hymns for Special Occasions. Words are included.
