This dramatic reflection upon the scene at Calvary opens as a quiet invocation (opt. solo), calling believers to the cross to mourn their Savior. Beautiful text images, a haunting melody, and a flowing accompaniment combine to create a compelling picture. Then, the choir sings a free, expressive choral prayer (opt. a cappella), based upon the traditional tune, Wayfaring Stranger, paired with Frederick Faber's 19th century hymn text, O Come and Mourn with Me Awhile. The opening reverie returns to close with a sense of hushed wonder. Highly recommended!
