Bendusi's collection differs from most other Italian dance music of this time in that the music contained in it does not seem to consist of arrangements of dance tunes that were obviously part of a popular repertoire. There are many tunes that survive in a sufficiently large number of strongly different settings to show that they were part of a living tradition, for instance La Gamba or Le Forze d'Hercole (both found in Gardane's Intabolatura Nova di Balli da sonare per arpichordi).
