Cornelis Floriszoon Schuyt was born in 1557 in Leyden. There he presumably went to the Latin School and later became a choir boy at the Pieterskerk, where Floris Schuyt, his father, wasThe fact that he lived in the Netherlands during the last years before the Reformation (1572) was important for his future developpement as a composer: he became very familiar with the local polyphonic style as we know it from, among others, the Leyden Choir Books.
In March 1593 Cornelius Schuyt became assistant organ player to his father at the Pieterskerk and the Pancraskerk - they served alternately at both churches in a biweekly rotation.
Only few of his works have survived, among them three collections of madrigals and a collection of instrumental music, all printed in Leyden between 1600 and 1611.
