The Painted Desert is a vast expanse of color-saturated, rocky badlands nestled between the iconic Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest National Park in northern Arizona. Through these four bagatelles, this composition captures the essence of the Painted Desert's diverse and captivating beauty, from the stillness of the desert just before sunrise, to the stunning tapestry of blue, purple, gray, and peach banded mesas. All four flutes are given a chance to lead in this piece.
