Nikolai Medtner was born in Moscow on Christmas Eve, 1879 (that is according to the Julian calender then in use in Russia; according to the Gregorian calendar, his birthday would have been January 5th, 1880). He composed a substantial number of works, all involving the piano, including piano sonatas, 108 songs, a piano quintet, and three piano concerti. Medtner died in Golders Green, London, on November 13th, 1951, and is buried in Hendon Cemetery, (London).
