After changing many hands throughout the years, including theft from storage in Germany during World War II, the original manuscript resides with the Pierpoint Morgan Library in New York, and a facsimile of this document is included. This particular sonata was written shortly after the death of Mozart's mother, to which one can ascribe its dark, dissonant themes throughout the movements.
