Liadov was a somewhat indolent composer but he did valuable work as a conductor, teacher, and collector and arranger of folksongs. He wrote little in the way of large-scale works but he did compose numerous piano miniatures – many imbued with a quiet mela ncholy but others revealing a vein of deliate humour – which abound in lyrical charm.
