In all movements, which are quite extended at times, the violin is leading the ensemble virtuoso whereas the other parts share the accompaniment. This composition requires an excellent violin player- what else would you expect from Paganini? The edition issued by Kurt Schumacher is the first practical one of the quartet which so far had only been available as a facsimile edition. The issue in hand was carefully prepared and edited according to the original manuscripts from Rome.
