The clarinet was one of Carl Maria von Weber's favorite instruments. All his clarinet compositions are associated with the best clarinetist of his time, Josef Baermann. Weber presented his work to him for his birthday in 1813, although the final Rondo was still missing. When Weber finished his composition in 1815, he had took into account the technical possibilities of a new instrument with 10 keys, which Baerman played now.
