This is one of the most substantial and interesting works inspired by the artistry of Carl Dolmetsch. It is unusual in form, having merely two movements, the first being a sort of dramatic recitative and the second a set of variations on a tune notated by the composer from the singing of an aquaintence as an entry for a competition for a national anthem for the Gamba.
