After buying his freedom, John P. Parker becomes a successful inventor and owner of an iron foundry in Ohio. He then concentrates on a difficult mission, becoming a conductor on the Underground Railroad and working to defeat one of his customers, a Kentucky slave owner named Sroufe, in his attempt to recapture two of his escaped slaves.
