Commissioned by the “St. Peters Wind Symphony” from Brisbane, Australia, the title refers to the late 19th century villa where St. Peters Lutheran College was founded. The villa has remained the school symbol, and in this composition Jacob de Haan views “Ross Roy” as a metaphor for the years spent at school, where one's personality is formed. The main theme is developed through a series of variations, rich in stylistic contrasts and dramatic building points. It is no coincidence that the final segment is reminiscent of the close to a traditional overture, for the school years can be considered the “overture” to the rest of one's life. Dur: 9:20
