Following a jocular remark from his wife that he sometimes seemed like a child, Robert Schumann (1810-1856) was inspired to write a work for piano evoking the curiosities and sentiments of childhood. In 1838, he composed 30 movements in total, but eventually eliminated all but thirteen for his KINDERSZENEN (SCENES FROM CHILDHOOD), Op. 15. Schumann originally called it LEICHTE STœCKE (EASY PIECES). He later added descriptive titles to equip the performer with suggestions for interpretation. This edition has been orchestrated by Israeli conductor and composer, Yoav Talmi. Movements: 1. Of Strange Lands and People (Von fremden L¤ndern und Menschen); 2. Curious Story (Kuriose Geschichte); 3. Blindman's Buff (Hasche-Mann); 4. Pleading Child (Bittendes Kind); 5. Perfectly Contented (Glĵckes genug); 6. Important Event (Wichtige Begebenheit); 7. Reverie (Tr¤umerei); 8. By the Fireside (Am Kamin); 9. The Knight of the Rocking-horse (Ritter vom Steckenpferd); 10. Almost Too Serious (Fast zu Ernst); 11. Frightening (Fĵrchtenmachen); 12. A Child Falling Asleep (Kind im Einschlummern); 13. The Poet Speaks (Der Dichter spricht); 14. Epilog: Important Event (Wichtige Begebenheit). Instrumentation: 2(2nd dPicc).2.2.2: 2.2.2.1: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
