Published in 1874, this fourth of seven orchestral suites by Jules Massenet (1842-1912) premiered on March 22, 1874, in Paris at Ch˘telet, Colonne conducting. Titled "Sc¨nes pittoresques," the suite in four movements was dedicated to the composer's friend, E. Paladilhe. The work has proven to be one of Massenet's most popular concert works. The second and fourth movements are derived from the overture to L'ADORABLE BEL'-BOUL'. Movement titles: 1. Marche, 2. Air de ballet, 3. Angİlus, 4. FŞte boh¨me.
