Frantisek Ondricek (1857-1922), one of the most famous violinists in the world in his time, was admired especially for his full-blooded musicality, supreme technique, and captivating stylistic renditions.
However, he is also known as a composer of violin pieces, which are direct in a folk-like manner, full of fresh music-making, and supremely effective. These descriptions are apt for his Scherzo capriccioso, Op. 18 from 1901.
