The second of two serenades for a simplified orchestra, this one for winds, violoncello and double bass rank among the most characteristic and also the loveliest expressions of DvorĦk's creative spirit, with the instrumentation seeming destined to be performed in the evening somewhere in a garden.  This work is also the first in a series of works with which, at the beginning of 1878, DvorĦk was opening a new period in his creative activity, and this Wind Serenade acheives a special charm in its uniquely beautiful sound acheived by seemingly simple means.
