Jaroslav Kocian (1883-1950), the world famous violin virtuoso and important educationalist, who brought up a whole generation of Czech violin players, composed most of his works for the violin and used them for encores after his concerts. These works include also the Serenade in D major.
The Serenade is published thanks to the cooperation of the publishing house Editio Barenreiter Praha and the Kocian Violin Competition in Usti nad Orlici.
The violin part includes proposals for fingering and drawing the bow prepared by Vaclav Snitil, the last of Jaroslav Kocian's pupils. In a few cases the original fingering by the actual composer is shown in brackets directly in the score.
