Seven Canzonette (1585) -4 scores. Contributors: Vecchi. Recorder Quartets (SSAT/ TTBB). Publisher's category: Recorder Quartets.

Vecchi was the leading composer of lighter forms in Italy 1600. His canzonette are marvelously fresh and lively works.
These seven canzonette are taken from Canzonette di Horatio VecchiPERFORMANCE:
These pieces will sound extremely pleasant with four voices. Those printed at the high pitch (nos. 4-7) will probably sound better transposed down a fourth or so there is no reason to take the written pitch literally here. Instruments can of course be used very successfully viols, violin family (or a mixture of the two); cornetts and sackbuts, or other wind instruments; the higher pieces will work very well on recorders at pitch (TTBB or TTTB), or with a viol or soft wind instrument on the bass. As Vecchis word-setting is very polished, instrumentalists would do well to follow the stresses of the words in performing these ieces.
