Alan Bullards works have been entered into the recorder players standard repertoire. This sonata, though a more serious work, nevertheless abounds in attractive and memorable ideas. The opening, Fanfare heralds a deeply felt Lament, and the final movement is lively Burlesque with ever-changing time signatures to keep the players on their toes.
